Picture Correction!!!

I have been notified of a change in picture times.  Everyone will report to the band room at 9:00 am this Saturday, August 1 to get dressed in their uniform for the pictures.  The pictures will be made in the new gym.  We will take a group picture first, and then will take pictures of seniors and their families afterwards.  Lastly, we will take individual pictures.  We should be finished no later than 10:30.  Freshmen- administration has been notified that you will be late to the Freshman Fiesta.  This has been approved.

59-Minute Fund Raiser was a HUGE Success!

On Friday, July 24, the band held a Power-Hour Fund Raiser.  In 60 minutes, the band raised over $2500!!! More impressively, 100% of the band participated and contributed to the total!!!!!  The profit from this fundraiser will go into the students' individual accounts to pay for band fees and/or the trip.

Shoe Sizing and Pictures

The shoe sizing scheduled for July 30 has been postponed until August 4 at 4:00.  All new marchers will need to be sized for shoes, and anyone who needs new marching shoes will also need to be sized.  These will cost $30, and must be paid by Tuesday, August 4.

The band will be taking pictures this Saturday, August 1.  All seniors and their families will need to report at 7:30 to change into their uniform and report to the stadium by 8:00.  Everyone (including seniors) will need to report to the band room at 9:30 to suit up and report to the stadium for a group picture.  Individual pictures will follow.

Band Camp and More!

Hello, everyone!  I hope your summer is going great!  Band camp is just around the corner, so just a quick update/reminder that I hope will benefit you.

First, the LSHS Band will be having a car wash at the Exxon Station located at 3229 Veteran's Memorial Highway near the 78 Body Shop near Thornton Rd (same place as last time).  The car wash will be from 9 am- 2 pm on Saturday, July 11.  Come help, or at least bring your car to be washed!  Those participating will receive a portion of the profits to put toward their band and/or trip expenses.  See you there!

Second, Color Guard members need to bring any unpaid money for their uniform during camp next week.  Each member should have paid $60 already.  The remaining balance is $80 ($140 total, which covers the uniform, hat, and shipping).  We MUST have this by Wednesday, July 15 to ensure delivery on time for the first game. (Monday would be better!)

Third, the band will be taking pictures for the football program on Saturday, August 1 at 8:00 am.  This means that we will need to report at 7:30 am! Please add this to your calendar.

Finally, some updates about band camp.  At this point, at least $210 should have been paid toward band fees.  If you are not up to date on your payments, you may still come to band camp, but we need to get you caught up as soon as possible.  Remember, the total cost is $350, so there are 2 more payments left.  We will have a mandatory parent meeting on Monday, July 20 at 6pm.  It is very important that at least one parent or guardian for every child is in attendance.  I would recommend taking your child home, if possible, and then returning for the meeting.

For band camp, everyone needs to bring:  tennis shoes (no sandals, no flip-flops, no boots... TENNIS SHOES!), a hat (to keep the sun off your face), sunscreen (to prevent burning), and a refillable water bottle.  Don't forget your instrument!  See below for a full reminder of the band camp schedule:

LSHS Flute Day a Success!

Ms. Hannah Rudy, Band Director at Chapel Hill High School, worked with the LSHS flute players after school on Monday, January 12. She stressed developing a consistent tone through working on long tones, developing a vibrato, proper hand position and technique, and proper embouchure. She spent a good deal of time on the difference between aperture and embouchure, and the importance of each. Ms. Rudy is a former member of the UGA Redcoat Band, where she also served as drum major her senior year. She is in her third year of teaching overall, and her second at Chapel Hill HS. The flute players truly appreciated her taking time to come and work with them, as she is busy getting her own band ready for LGPE. Anyone interested in taking lessons from Ms. Rudy should contact her directly, or let Mr. Anderson or Mr. Sargent know.

Welcome Back!

Now that students have returned from holiday break, it is time to prepare for LGPE (Large Group Performance Evaluation). This is what used to be called Festival. At LGPE, we are asked to play 3 pieces as close to perfect as possible, and 3 judges will let us know how close we come to doing so. The band will also be judged on sight reading (I will have a blog on this later!) Toward that end, the three bands at LSHS (Concert Band, Concert Winds, and Symphonic Band) will have several after school rehearsals and sectionals. These are required, and are necessary for our success. Below is a letter that will be sent home on January 8 and 9. Please look for it! Dear Band Students and Parents, Below is the schedule between today and March 13. All rehearsals and performances are required. As always, please inform us of any conflicts as soon as they are known, and then complete a make-up assignment. We are working toward our LGPE performance, which is our major event for the year. As always, if you have any questions, call or email either Mr. Anderson or Mr. Sargent.
